Tenerife is praised by the media as the best location where professional teams train at altitude. This is due to the good climate and diversity of the island.
But why would you, as a cycling tourist, choose to cycle in Tenerife:
1. Climate
Throughout the year, the average temperature in the Canary Islands is about 22 degrees. This makes it interesting for cyclists to go to Tenerife at any time. The sun shines 365 days a year. It hardly rains there. It is not without reason that many professional teams, such as Ineos, UAE and Jumbo-Visma, train for a few months every year in Tenerife to lay their foundation for the Grand Tours.
2. Beautiful views
Riding flat roads is very rare, as soon as you leave sea level, the altitude meters follow very quickly. This provides many beautiful views of the ocean, villages and mountains. Whether you cycle to El Teide, Vilaflor, Masca or Los Gigantes, the views are magnificent.
Discover Tenerife and enjoy the beautiful places.
The national park will always be Tenerife's most popular attraction. At a maximum height of 3718 meters, Teide is the highest mountain in Spain. You can cycle up to an altitude of 2300 meters. No climb is longer in Spain.
In addition, Los Gigantes is certainly worth a visit because of the beautiful cliffs. One of Tenerife's most famous tourist destinations is this town, located in the western region of the island. From the Archipenque viewpoint you have a very beautiful view of the cliffs. If you continue cycling from Los Gigantes, you can also cycle further to Santiago del Teide and via El Tanque to Buenavista del Norte.
3. Gastronomy
It would be a shame not to try the Canarian dishes. Tenerife's uncomplicated cuisine is worth experiencing for its flavor combinations and local ingredients. The products on the island are very diverse, with lots of wild meat, fresh fish and tropical dishes.
The following dishes are typically Canarian: papas arrugadas con mojos, grilled meat or fish (tuna, parrotfish, vieja, swordfish, sea bass), soups, stews and vegetables.
