The Marche region (Italian, Le Marche) is located in central Italy between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea. As a cycling region, it enjoys some fame mainly because of the Tirreno-Adriatico stage race where the last stages are always ridden in the Marches.
Le Marche is synonymous with genuine Italian hospitality (still little tourism), delicious cuisine, endless rolling hills with picturesque medieval villages.
Due to its unique location and landscape, with both high mountains, high plains, gently rolling hills, beach and sea, you can enjoy a very diversified and beautiful route during this adventurous mountain bike tour.
This mountain bike tour guarantees a unique experience with lots of variety. The route is mostly off-road and truly in nature. The routes lead you (except stage 4) past places to eat at lunchtime so you can enjoy a real cycling holiday. The suggested routes are for the sporty mountain biker with some technical descents and quite a few meters of elevation. However, if you opt for an e-bike, you won't have to worry about the climbs at all.
During this wonderful tour, you will bike from the Monti Sibillini to the Riviera del Conero in 5 stages and the organisers will bring your luggage to the next accommodation every day.
The tour starts near Castelluccio di Norcia, located on the Piano Grande plateau and at the foot of Monte Vettore (at +/- 2,400 m the highest mountain in the Marches). From late May to early July, you can observe the unseen colourful floral displays on Castelluccio's plateau. With the wide variety of plants in bloom, this is one of the most spectacular times to visit the Parco Nazionale dei Sibillini.
We cycle along Monte Vettore on mostly singletracks towards the Gole dell'Infernaccio. After lunch, we leave the inhabited world again and climb via the river gorge and along the swirling Tenna River to the Passo Cativo at 1820 metres, after which stage 1 is completed with a long and a non-technical descent.
