Organizer: The Trans Balkan Race route is 100% rideable and proof-tested. We suggest competing with a comfortable hardtail 29er with chunky tires and light mountain bike gearing. You can also race on a gravel bike/monster cross with larger tires since the trails are generally smooth and there are some nice gravel routes. However, other sections are considerably tougher, and, overall, an MTB would definitely spare you some hike-a-bike (and saddle sore...).
