2023 QUIET CORNER BIKE TOUR
PRESENTED BY THE THREAD CITY CYCLERS
We have a new name this year. Formerly the Thread City Century is now the Quiet Corner Bike Tour - Presented by the Thread City Cyclers and is scheduled for Sunday JulY 23RD. The start location will be at Edward Garrison Park in Chaplin, CT. There will be plenty of room to park, a large covered pavilion for registration and food at the park after the ride. This will be our tenth year hosting a ride over the last eleven years! We will have routes of 100, 69, 42, and 25 miles plus an 18 mile gravel loop with about eight miles on the Airline Trail. The 100 mile ride will stay on this side of the Connecticut River this year with a new rest stop near the end at Wi-Li-Kit were you can purchase ice cream. We will be donating half of all proceeds from the event to one or more advocacy groups for support of our local trails and youth cycling education.
100 Mile Century
This year our century route will still take you through the scenic turns at Devil's Hopyard State Park, and then turn north to explore more of the Quiet Corner with an opportunity for ice cream at Wi-Li-Kit at the last rest stop. You will also have the option to stop at four other rest stops to fill your water bottle, have some packaged sweet or salty snacks, home baked treats, fruit, and a few other things for cyclists.
69 Mile
The 69 mile ride heads out the same way as the longer routes, taking a turn in Colchester to link up again with the return to Chaplin. You will visit three of the rest stops used on the longer routes
43 Mile
The 43 mile ride will head out to the rest stop in Baltic where it joins the other routes on the return to the park. Two rest stops on this route to make sure you have enough fuel to get you to the finish.
25 Mile
We have added a 25 mile route this year with one rest stop that is shared with the other routes. The 25 mile ride will be the shortest route heading out and returning on the same roads as our longer rides
18 Mile Gravel Loop
The 18 mile gravel loop will be using about 8 miles of the Air Line Trail with one rest stop.
FOOD, REST STOPS, & ROUTE SUPPORT
We pride ourselves on our overstocked rest stops and abundant food after the ride. All ride lengths will have stops stocked with plenty of packaged sweet and salty choices, home baked goodies, fruit, and water. When you return to the park we will have a variety of offerings to make a fresh sandwich with some salads, chips, and fruits before you head home. All included with the price of the ride. You won’t go hungry! Sweep riders and on call support will be provided for anyone needing transport back to the start / finish at the park. Half of the proceeds will go for trail advocacy to support and improve our local trails and youth cycling education.
