Revival of the mother of ultra cycling

New edition of the ultra-distance cycling event Bordeaux-Paris is announced! L'ultra Bordeaux-Paris edition 2023 will take place on Saturday 27 May 2023 with departure in Bordeaux, département Gironde, region New Aquitaine, France.

Legendary Bordeaux-Paris with « la battistrada in moto »

The Bordeaux-Paris ultra-cycling event was unique from the start in 1891, due to its length of about 600 km and its course with the introduction in 1931 of a hare by bike (in Italian « la battistrada in moto »), later known as the famous dernys: During the second part of the course, the rider would ride behind a derny, driven by the coach, in order to reduce the air resistance, allowing him to reach speeds of around 50-60 km/h.

But over time, the race lost its prestige and because the race required specific preparation, the number of participants began to decrease and the last version behind the famous dernys took place in 1985. Three more editions took place between 1986 and 1988. With seven victories to his name, Herman Van Springel became the « Monsieur Bordeaux-Paris ».
