The Joop Zoetemelk Classic is a roadbike tour through the polder landscape of South Holland on the roads on which Joop Zoetemelk rode his training rides in his younger years.
The now 76-year-old Joop Zoetemelk can be considered one of the best cyclists ever. Zoetemelk turned pro in 1970 and that same year immediately came second in the Tour de France. After finishing second four more times, he rightly inherited the nickname « eternal second » from Raymond Poulidor until he finally won the Tour de France in 1980. In total, Zoetemelk even came second 6 times!
He also won the Tour of Spain, Flèche Wallonne, Amstel Gold Race and became road world champion in 1985.
